Summit plans to ‘Drive Angry’

Studio picks up rights to Nicolas Cage 3D action pic

Summit Entertainment has picked up North American distribution rights to 3D revenge-actioner “Drive Angry,” toplining Nicolas Cage, for release Feb. 11, 2011.Michael De Luca Prods. is producing the pic, which Patrick Lussier (“My Blood Valentine 3D”) will direct from a script he penned with Todd Farmer (“Bloody Valentine 3D,” “The Messengers”).

Storyline revolves around a tough-as-nails man who speeds through the desert, hunting down the man who kidnapped his granddaughter and killed his daughter.

Producers are Michael De Luca and Adam Fields. Nu Image Films’ Boaz Davidson and Danny Dimbort are exec producing with Avi Lerner and Trevor Short.

Lussier’s 3D remake “My Blood Valentine” far outpaced expectations in its B.O. performance, grossing $51.5 million domestically for Lionsgate and $48.2 million internationally for a worldwide total of $100 million.
