‘Battlestar Galactica’ treks on

Spinoff, movie bring 'BSG' team back to Comic-Con

Although the final season of “Battlestar Galactica” has come and gone, this is the series that will never end. “Caprica” (the Cylons’ origins, from a human perspective) will premiere on Syfy January 22 and “Battlestar Galactica: The Plan” (Cylons’ planned genocide of the human race) will premiere on DVD and Blu-Ray Oct. 27. All of which means the “BSG” team, headed by creators/executive producers Ronald Moore and David Eick, was back for another Comic-Con panel

Although Moore said “Caprica” would follow many scenarios introduced in “BSG,” he touted the new series as a character drama that doesn’t require being a die-hard ‘Battlestar’ fan to follow it. Moore described the relationship between “BSG” and “Caprica” as “tangential, with certain winks to ‘Battlestar Galactica.'”

Speaking of tangents, later in the panel Moore heatedly declared it was “criminal” that the stellar (no pun intended) cast had never received award recognition, which was met with an uproar of applause from the fans.

Adding a welcome dose of humor to the proceedings was “Plan” director and star Edward James Olmos, who morphed into a self-appointed marketing VP. “Once you watch ‘The Plan,’ you’ll have to go back and watch ‘Battlestar’ again,” said Edward James Olmos. “And you’ll have to get the Blu-Ray.”

In addition to providing a dead-on Olmos impression, “Caprica” star Esai Morales exhorted fans to reinvest in the “BSG” universe once more: “Spread the word. So say we all.”
