The Bonner medal honors “outstanding service and dedication in upholding the high standards” of the Academy.
Kimball joined Disney in 1980, eventually rising to chief technologist of its feature animation division. He helped develop the CAPS computer animation system, for which he received a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Acad in 1991.
His feature credits include “Tron,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin” and “The Lion King.”
The SciTech Awards banquet will be held Feb. 7 at the Beverly Wilshire.
