President Obama’s Beverly Hilton fund-raiser for the Democratic National Committee is expected to bring in about $3 million, the Wall Street Journal reports, as the party tries to bridge the gap with the Republican National Committee. The RNC had $23.9 million on hand in the first qarter to $9.8 million for the DNC.
The event represents Obama’s first Hollywood fund-raiser since taking office.
The Boss Tops: Politico reports that even though Bruce Springsteen raised money and campaigned for Obama, a half-dozen Republican lawmakers are planning fund-raisers at his concert at the Verizon Center tonight.
Newsom’s Event: Gavin Newsom, campaigning for governor, raises money on June 3 at the home of Craig and Lynn Jacobson. In a sign of who is aligning with whom in what promises to be a bitterly fought battle, co-chairs are Ben Silverman, Ari Emanuel, Michele and Rob Reiner and Jamie Lynton along with the Jacobsons. Co-hosts are Eric Paquette, George Heller and Andy Bohn. Cocktails are $500 per person, a VIP “pre-reception” is $2,500 per person and dinner is $5,000 per person.
Stimulus and Entertainment: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s small business advocate, Marty Keller, hosts a roundtable discussion Tuesday afternoon with entertainment industry leaders on how companies can access some of the billions of dollars in government stimulus money, including tax breaks and access to capital. The event will be at Renegade Animation in Glendale.
