Bear with me for some self promotion: Wilshire & Washington won for blog of the year at the Los Angeles Press Club’s Southern California Journalism Awards on Sunday. It was great to be recognized, particularly for such an eventful year. Awards were handed out in an array of categories for online, radio, print and TV coverage in 2008.
The event also honored Arianna Huffington with the President’s Award for impact on journalism (presented by Bill Maher); Rick Orlov of the Los Angeles Daily News with the Joseph M. Quinn Award for Lifetime Achievement (president by Linda Breakstone); and Robyn Dixon of the Los Angeles Times with the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism (presented by Judea Pearl). In accepting her award, Huffington referred to the Webby Awards where winners were allowed to say five words. Her choice: “I did not kill newspapers,” she quipped.
