Forman receives lifetime achievement award
Portugal’s first Douro Film Harvest wrapped Sunday, with Russian helmer Vasili Sigarev’s mother-daughter drama “Wolfy” winning the Vintage Selection competition, while Milos Forman received the Tawny Tribute for lifetime achievement.Fest was programmed across four towns in the Douro Valley, Portugal’s port and wine-producing region, and aimed to celebrate films and wine in an idyllic setting. “I’d heard how beautiful this area was,” Forman said, “but I’m really amazed. This has been a real discovery for me.” Forman’s longtime producer Paul Rassam was also enthusiastic, “With a clear theme and focus this event has all the ingredients to become a premier film gathering.” During the event, Forman donned a cape and hat to be sworn into the elite Brotherhood of Port Wine. “My children are convinced I’ve become canonized as an official alcoholic,” he quipped. Fest organizer Manuel Vaz intends to expand next year’s event and shift it to a later date.
