WB expands ‘Pucca’ push

WB pushes products for animated series

Warner Bros. is about to make “Pucca” — the South Korean animated series that leapt from the Internet to television channels around the world — a little more consumer friendly.

Studio has expanded its consumer products license for the property beyond Brazil and will now also sell “Pucca”-branded merchandise in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

“Pucca,” owned by Vooz Co., launched online in 2000 as a series of Flash-animated shorts about the 10-year-old daughter of a Chinese restaurant owner who is in love with a 12-year-old ninja warrior. Web series quickly generated enough of a following to land a berth on rebranded Mouse House cabler Disney XD.

South Korea-based Vooz Character System co-created the TV series.

Merchandise will include apparel, accessories, school supplies, bedding and home goods.

“Pucca” has been “a tremendous success for us in the Brazilian retail marketplace,” said Jordan Sollitto, exec VP of new initiatives and international licensing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “It fits perfectly into our entertainment licensing portfolio,” he said, adding that the studio will especially focus on expanding the property in Latin America and Mexico.
