Oriental Land reports record attendance
TOKYO — Oriental Land has reported record attendance in 2008 for the two parks it operates in Japan: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
Their combined attendance was 27.2 million, up 7%, or 1.79 million admissions, on the previous year.
In 2008, Tokyo Disneyland celebrated its 25th anniversary with a series of events that boosted attendance.
The opening of new facilities, including the Cirque du Soleil Theater, which bowed in October, also kept turnstiles spinning.
Finally, the weather cooperated, with fewer typhoons in the key summer months.
The two parks are part of the Tokyo Disney Resort that also includes the Ikspiari shopping, dining and entertainment complex.
The location in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, is convenient for Tokyo residents as well as foreign visitors arriving at nearby Narita Intl. Airport.
