Broadcaster snags Showtime series

German-French pubcaster Arte has nabbed “The Tudors” after the hit Showtime series failed to impress auds on German commercial web ProSieben last year.

Programmers at the culture channel are hoping the sexy historical skein will titillate its more mature viewers in primetime.

The pubcaster will air double episodes on Saturdays at 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 12.

The Jonathan Rhys Meyers starrer debuted on ProSieben in June 2008 but generated little interest among the web’s young demo, achieving only single-digit market shares.

Arte has enjoyed recent hits with the BBC’s “Jekyll” and French drama “Venus and Apollo.”
