Thesps ready for ‘Rebecca’ in London

Boggess, Barrett to appear in tuner's reading

Sierra Boggess and Brent Barrett are among the thesps who will appear in an upcoming London reading of tuner “Rebecca,” aiming for Broadway in the coming seasons.

Boggess (“The Little Mermaid”) will star as the nameless protag of “Rebecca,” with Barrett (“Annie Get Your Gun”) playing her new husband and Pia Douwes (“Chicago”) cast as the sinister housekeeper.

Tuner, an adaptation of the 1938 Daphne du Maurier novel, preemed in Vienna in a 2006 German-language production. Francesca Zambello (“Mermaid,” “The First Wives’ Club”) helms the show, which has music by Sylvester Levay and an English book by Christopher Hampton (“Les Miserables”). Hampton co-penned the lyrics with Michael Kunze, who wrote the original German-language book and lyrics.

Produced by Ben Sprecher and Louise Forlenza for Global Broadway Prods., the English-language version of “Rebecca” is in discussion for a Toronto bow before potential engagements on Broadway and in the West End.

The industry reading in London is set for Oct. 2.
