Thriller to be produced by Sonet for $5 million
STOCKHOLM — Peter Stormare and Rolf Lassgard will star in “The Hunters 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 Swedish hit thriller. Kjell Sundvall, who helmed “The Hunters,” will helm the sequel.
The Kroner 35 million ($5 million) production will start to shoot in August, with the preem set for fall 2011.
Peter Possne will produce for Sonet Films, in association with Bjorn Carlstrom and Per Janerus. TV4 and Filmpool Nord co-produce.
“Hunters,” where Lassgard played a Stockholm cop who returns to his hometown in the north of Sweden, was a major box office and critical hit in Sweden and several other Euro countries.
The option for a U.S. remake was sold first to Spyglass and then passed to Disney, but the redo was never made. Rights have reverted to Sonet.
In “The Hunters 2,” Lassgard´s cop reluctantly agrees to once again go back north to solve a crime, where he confronts the local head of police, played by Stormare.
