Cholodenko, Chadha movies set for festival

Sundance has added world premieres of films by fest vets Lisa Cholodenko, Gurinder Chadha and Galt Niederhoffer in out-of-competition slots for the 2010 festival, which runs Jan. 21-31. When the opportunity to screen the latest films from three extremely innovative storytellers presented itself, we knew we could not deny our audiences,” said fest director John Cooper.

Cholodenko’s “The Kids Are Alright” stars Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Annette Bening in the story of a father who reunites with his artificially inseminated children. Produced by Plum Pictures, pic also stars Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson. Cholodenko won the fest’s screenwriting award for “High Art.”

“Bend It Like Beckham” helmer Chadha’s comedy “It’s a Wonderful Afterlife,” starring Shabana Azmi, Goldy Notay and Sally Hawkins, centers on an Indian mother who discovers that finding the perfect son-in-law can be murder.

Niederhoffer’s “The Romantics,” based on the helmer-scribe’s novel, stars Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Elijah Wood, Candice Bergen and Josh Duhamel. Comedy, which takes place over the course of a wedding night, is produced by Plum Pictures.
