Strand Releasing has picked up U.S. rights to “The Wedding Song,” the second film by French-Algerian helmer Karin Albou.
Set during WWII in a Tunisian neighborhood where Jews and Muslims live in harmony, the French- and Arabic-lingo pic follows two teenage girls who secretly envy each other’s lives.
Strand is eyeing a late October or early November release.
“Song” unspooled at the Seattle Film Festival in May and this past week at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.
Albou’s first film, “Little Jerusalem,” won the script prize at Cannes’ Crix Week in 2006.
Strand co-prexy Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with Pyramide Intl.’s Yoann Ubermulhin.
