Dixit to star as India’s former prime minister
Bollywood filmmaker Krishna Shah is taking on Indira Gandhi for a two-part project, “Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story,” from a script he’s been writing for 23 years.
Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit will star as the former Indian prime minister.
“It will be in Hinglish,” Shah said, meaning a mix of Hindi and English. And while there will be songs, it’s not a Bollywood-style film, he said.
The writer-director hopes to start shooting in April in India and also plans to lense in the U.S., U.K. and Russia.
“It’s such an exciting, dramatic story. The canvas of her life is too big to be contained in one film,” he said.
Declining to give the budget (“It’s bigger than ‘Paranormal Activity’ and less than ‘Avatar'”) or his financial backers, Shah said he plans to shoot both parts at the same time. He’ll release part one at the end of 2011 and part two about seven or eight months later. Typically Bollywood filmmakers sell completed pics to distributors.
