State-of-the-art facility to include nine stages
Hollywood’s Raleigh Studios will open a state-of-the-art facility less than 20 minutes from downtown Budapest, Hungary, in April.
On completion, Raleigh Studios Budapest will have nine soundstages, including a super stage of 45,000 square feet and a 15-acre backlot.
There is full-set and location lighting as well as grip with Raleigh’s Hollywood Rentals; line producing with Raleigh Film; and a state-of-the-art post-production facility and digital film laboratory.
An on-the-lot production training school will help maintain Hungary’s existing talent pool while creating a new generation of film crews.
Raleigh will compete with a bevy of facilities in the area including Korda Studios, Nu Boyana Film Studios, Mafilm Studios, Astra and the Stern Film Studio and Media Center.
These all service shoots eager to tap Hungary’s generous film incentives and tax rebates.
The country offers a 20% production incentive that can go as high as 25% to qualified productions. The European Union’s value-added tax is also reclaimable.
“We are very excited to be opening in Budapest,” said Raleigh Studios prexy Michael Moore. “There has already been considerable interest from our clients, and we’re confident this will be one of the finest studio operations in Europe.”
Pics that have used Hungarian studio facilities recently include “Hellboy 2,” Peter Weir’s “The Way Back” and “Universal Soldier 3.” TV skeins include HBO’s “John Adams” and Hallmark’s “Robin Hood.”
In addition to Budapest, Raleigh Studios has locations in Hollywood, Manhattan Beach and Playa Vista (all in California) and Baton Rouge, La.
