Polley to star in Kaurismaki’s ‘Queen’

TORONTO — Canuck thesp Sarah Polley (“Mr. Nobody”) will star as the 17th-century Queen of Sweden in the epic feature drama “Queen Kristina,” helmed by Finland’s Mika Kaurismaki (“The House of Branching Love”) and scripted by Quebec’s Michel Marc Bouchard.

The Canada-Nordic co-production was announced Thursday by producers Anna Stratton and Robin Cass of Canada’s Triptych Media, Kaurismaki for Marianna Films and Berlin-based Hank Levine for Hank Levine Film.

“Kristina” will shoot in Canada and Sweden in early 2011, and will be released in Canada by Union Pictures.
