Paramount wants Cole’s ‘Sex’

Studio acquires rights in U.K., Australia, NZ

Paramount Pictures has acquired director Nigel Cole’s “We Want Sex” for the U.K., Australia and New Zealand.

Pic, produced by U.K.-based Number 9 Films’ Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen, has also been bought by ARP in France, Lucky Red in Italy.

Hanway Films is handling worldwide sales and has concluded over 25 deals for the pic to date.

Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, Andrea Riseborough, Jaime Winstone and Daniel Mays all star in the pic, about the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant when 850 femme workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination in their job grading. BBC Films will co-produce. BBC Films, the U.K. Film Council’s Premiere Fund, BMS Finance and Lip Sync Prods. financed the project.
