Urban horror pic stars Martin Compston

LONDON — Optimum Releasing has acquired U.K. rights to “Kidulthood” helmer Menhaj Huda’s forthcoming project “Comedown.”

Optimum is ramping up its own production activities as well as pursuing an aggressive acquisitions policy. AV Pictures in handling sales on the project, which is written by Steven Kendall.

Project is an urban horror pic set against a contemporary London backdrop of abandonment and decay as six teenagers setting up a relay aerial for a local pirate radio station at the top of a condemned tower block are targeted by a resident psychopath.

Martin Compston (“Red Road”), Red Madrell (“Kidulthood”), Adam Deacon (“Adulthood”) and Geoff Bell (“RocknRolla”) will all star in the project, which starts lensing next March.

Serotonin Films’ Dominic Norris (“Guilty Hearts”) and Phoenix Wiley’s Gareth Wiley (“Vicky Cristina Barcelona”) are producing.
