Local distribs equipped with exhibition arms
Local distribs Medusa and RAI Cinema, both units of the country’s top broadcasters, are having strong years and are also equipped with their own exhibition arms.
But for the others, like Filmauro, BIM and Lucky Red, the going is tougher than ever, since TV sales are scarcer and the homevid market is going south, making theatrical crucial.
Italos do have an appetite for pics that can play on TV, however. At Mipcom, RAI Cinema was the first to ink a deal with the CBS Films unit, and Medusa must help feed sister company Mediaset’s new premium pay TV channels.
