Singer feted with Officier de la Legionne d'Honneu

MUMBAI — Indian film singer Lata Mangeshkar, popularly known as the Nightingale of India, received France’s highest decoration, the Officier de la Legionne d’Honneur, from the French Ambassador to India, Jerome Bonnafont, in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The event also kicked off the French Film Festival Mumbai, which runs until Sunday.

Mangeshkar, 80, began her career in 1942 and has sung in more than 1,000 movies in Hindi and 20 other Indian languages.

She is in the Guinness Book of World Records for having sung more than 30,000 songs in her career.
