Makkos, Wiley to co-head department
Fox comedy topper Susan Levison is expected to depart the network shortly.
As part of the change, Levison’s lieutenants, vice presidents of comedy development Suzanna Makkos and Marcus Wiley, are in line to head up the department as dual heads. Levison’s position itself wouldn’t be replaced.
Move would mirror the setup on Fox’s drama side. Earlier this year, after drama head Laura Lancaster left for NBC, Fox opted to put VPs Rachel Bendavid and Terence Carter (a new arrival from the Peacock) in place as co-heads of the drama department.
Makkos and Wiley would report to Fox exec VP Matt Cherniss. Wiley re-joined Fox last year from William Morris, where he was a packaging and lit agent; Makkos has been with the net’s comedy development team since 2001.
It’s unclear what Levison’s next move will be. Exec has headed up the comedy department as senior VP since 2006; she also spent time working with Fox’s drama and alternative teams. Her contract expired this month.
Levison helped develop the net’s new crop of laffers, including the already picked-up “Sons of Tucson.”
Fox execs, busy prepping the net’s Monday upfront presentation, declined comment on the exec shuffle.
