Italia 1 pockets ‘Color of Money’

Gameshow failed to deliver big numbers in U.K.

LONDON — The ITV gameshow “Color of Money,” which failed to live up to its hype as a successor to “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” in the U.K., is to be revived for audiences in Italy.

The Italian version will be made in Rome, co-produced by Mediaset-owned RTI Productions in partnership with Triangle Productions and ITV Studios.

The 30-minute skein, commissioned for 60 episodes, will premiere on Italia 1 this fall, stripped in an early-evening slot.

The format was created by 12 Yard, the shingle acquired by ITV 18 months ago and best known for masterminding “The Weakest Link,” a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

ITV’s flagship web ITV1 entertained high hopes for “The Color of Money” when it bowed last winter, but the show was a big disappointment averaging fewer than 4 million viewers.
