SYDNEY — Paul Hogan and Shane Jacobson, co-stars of “Charlie and Boots” from Paramount and its non-exclusive Australian partner Transmission Films, will add glitz to the Australian Movie Convention — the Oz version of Showest.
Pair will attend a red carpet preem for the father and son roadtrip laffer on Aug. 23, opening the five-day confab, held for the first time at Jupiter’s Casino on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Mark Zoradi, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group prexy, will tubthump his studio’s slate, especially 3-D pics to theater owners in Oz, who are only slowly opting to convert their cinemas to digital.
Federal funder Screen Australia will showcase locally made films on Aug. 27, before the box office achievement awards at which “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” looks like it will win the trophy for highest-grossing film.
“Transformers” is the top-earner of the past 12 months with A$39.5 million ($33 million) but “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” on $28 million after three weekends, is closing in.
