‘Greatest’ start to Karlovy Vary

Brosnan, Sarandon pic to open film festival

PRAGUE — American Shana Feste’s debut helming effort, “The Greatest,” will open the Karlovy Vary fest on July 3 and, a week later, Richard Curtis’ “The Boat That Rocked” will close it.

Sophie Barthes’ offbeat American entry “Cold Souls,” starring Paul Giamatti, is among 14 competition pics that were announced Tuesday. Isabelle Huppert will accompany her competish pic “Villa Amalia,” by director Benoit Jacquot. Antonio Banderas will accept the fest president’s prize and unspool his Berlinale-honored romancer “Summer Rain.”

American multihyphenate Paul Schrader, meanwhile, will present his adaptation of Yoram Kaniuk’s post-Holocaust novel “Adam Resurrected,” starring Jeff Goldblum.
