‘Fish Tank’ leads BIFAs race

'Moon,' 'Education,' 'Boy,' 'Loop' chase awards

LONDON — “Fish Tank” has picked up eight noms for the British Independent Film Awards, including screenplay and director for Andrea Arnold.

Pic’s Katie Jarvis received noms for actress and most promising newcomer.

Other films with multiple nominations include Duncan Jones’ “Moon,” with seven noms; Lone Scherfig’s “An Education,” Armando Iannucci’s “In the Loop” and Sam Taylor Wood’s “Nowhere Boy,” with six nominations each; and Jane Campion’s “Bright Star,” with four nominations.

Daniel Day-Lewis will be honored with the Richard Harris Award for outstanding contribution to British film by an actor.

The jury includes actress Jodie Whittaker, actors Idris Elba and Liam Cunningham, director Sarah Gavron, producers Adrian Sturges and Anita Overland, and the head of distribution and exhibition at the U.K. Film Council Pete Buckingham.

The 12th annual BIFAs will be held Dec. 6.
