A quarter of Japan's PS3 owners buy game
TOKYO — Square Enix’s “Final Fantasy 13” game for the PlayStation 3 console sold one million units on Thursday, its first day on sale in Japan.
According to figures compiled by games biz mag Enterbrain, there are 4 million PlayStation 3 owners in Japan, which means a quarter of them either went to stores on Thursday — or will find “FF13” under the Christmas tree.
Bowing in 1987, the “Final Fantasy” series has sold a total of 92 million units worldwide. The latest version is the first new one in three years and nine months — a gap that has generated a large pent-up demand. Priced at $102 in Japan, the game will go on sale in the U.S. and Europe on March 9.
