Romain Duris to play twisted lawyer

PARIS — Gallic actor Romain Duris has been cast to play a powerful but twisted attorney in EuropaCorp’s next French-language pic, “L’Homme qui voulait vivre sa vie” (The Man Who Wanted to Live His Life).

Budgeted at between Euros 15 million and Euros 18 million ($22 million-$26 million), the drama is based on American scribe Douglas Kennedy’s novel, “The Big Picture.” Pierre-Ange Le Pogam produces.

Pic follows the Paris lawyer, who discovers his wife is unfaithful and accidentally kills her boyfriend before stealing his identity.

Helmed by Eric Lartigau, pic also stars Catherine Deneuve and Niels Arestrup (“A Prophet”).

Lartigau last directed “I Do,” which had 3.7 million admissions at the Gallic B.O. and earned three Cesar noms in 2007.

EuropaCorp, which handles international sales and domestic distribution, will release “The Man Who Wanted to Live His Life” in France in fall 2010.

Lensing will take place in Paris, Brittany, France, and Montenegro.
