Band wins four prizes at Aria music event
SYDNEY — Pop duo Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele, known as Empire of the Sun, scooped the prizes at the 23rd annual Aria Awards, Oz’s top music kudos.
Empire of the Sun took home four kudos including the top award for album of the year for their critically acclaimed release “Walking on a Dream”; Empire also won group, pop release and single for “Walking on a Dream.”
Littlemore was not present at the ceremony as his work with Empire, and his other band Pnau, caught the eye of Elton John earlier this year and he is now working in Europe with acts like Blighty’s Groove Armada.
Aussie singer songwriter Sarah Blasko won the female artist kudo while Melbourne born, New York-based Daniel Merriweather took the male kudo for his debut album “Love and War.”
The Arias are industry judged, apart from two sales awards — highest selling single went to former “Australian Idol” Jessica Mauboy for “Running Back” and highest selling album was won by perennial Aussie rockers AC/DC for “Black Ice.”
