EFP backs films at AFM

Org heads to market with Media Program coin

Pic support org European Film Promotion will head to Santa Monica’s American Film Market next week with extra coin from the European Union’s Media Program.

Over the past decade, EFP has provided an umbrella office at AFM for small- and medium-sized European sales and production companies. This year, it will be adding Film Sales Support funds for the marketing of European films at AFM.

Euro sales companies are generally bringing more films to AFM this year.

“We would have been able to support twice as many films if it hadn’t been for our limited budget,” said EFP prexy Eva Vezer. “We also had to reduce the individual grants dramatically.”

Among the 26 companies and films benefiting from the public money are Germany’s Telepool (“The Door”), France’s Le Pacte (“Making Plans for Lena”), Hungary’s Hungaricom (“Chameleon”) and U.K.-based Salt (“Cherry Tree Lane”).

The FSS funding covers half of the costs for market screenings, badges and the production of promo materials. This type of support has previously been available to European companies participating in Hong Kong’s Filmart and Pusan’s Asian Film Market.
