TOKYO — Walt Disney and Panasonic are partnering to sell pics on SD cards in Japan, Disney announced on Wednesday.
Starting in November, Disney will release pics on Panasonic-produced SD cards at the same time it bows them on DVD. Users will be able to see the pics on their one segment standard cell phones or on car navigation systems.
The cards, at $53 apiece, will be priced higher than DVDs and come with copyguard protection.
Among the first titles will the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.
Panasonic has already incorporated SD card functions into its flat panel TVs and video cameras; the new venture will be yet another way to sell the cards to consumers.
