Chinese web gamers tally up 25%

Almost 40% of games users are female

BEIJING — China’s online revolution continues apace, with the number of online gamers in the country registering a hefty 24.8% rise to 69.31 million people this year.

Large-scale casual game and multi-player online role-playing games users account for 67.9% and 61% of the total respectively, up 19.8% and 11% from the previous year, while 38.9% of total users are female, data from the China Internet Network Information Center shows.

Students comprise 37.2% of online gamers, with 46.1% aged between 10 and 19 years, the center said in a report.

By the end of June, 222 million of China’s 338 million Internet users visited online video sites, up 23.8% year-on-year, the Sohu website reported, citing Tian Jin, vice minister of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
