Barrandov flags ‘Station’ TV series

Studio acquires rights to Downing books

Prague’s Barrandov Studios is moving into international TV production for the first time, acquiring the rights to the “Station Quartet” books by British author David Downing.

The option price was mid-five against low-six figures for the entries in the series — “Zoo Station,” “Silesian Station” and “Stettin Station,” plus “Potsdamer Station,” which will be published in the spring.

Story follows fictitious British-American journalist John Russell, who is recruited by the German and Soviet spy agencies and then approached by British intelligence, in Berlin during the years leading up to WWII.

Each book will be the basis for 10 hourlong episodes.

Studio has teamed with Pearblossom Entertainment on the espionage drama. Pearblossom principals Tony Lynn and Mike Rauch were involved in “The Tudors” during their stint at Showtime.

William Stuart, Barrandov’s U.S. representative, will act as executive producer on the series. Director and cast have yet to be set.

“This is exactly the type of project that makes sense for Barrandov and Prague,” said the studio’s chair, Janka Vozarova. “The books’ themes are still relevant to today’s world.”

Barrandov Studios has long been a home to international productions, hosting “Casino Royale,” “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” plus film and TV projects from around Europe.
