Producers could not raise fund for revue

The Alliance Theater in Atlanta has confirmed the developing Stephen Sondheim retrospective “iSondheim: aMusical Revue” has been cancelled because the commercial producers attached to the project could not raise their share of the capitalization costs.

The Gotham-based producers, the Frankel/Viertel/Baruch/Routh Group, said in a statement that the economy hindered their efforts to secure coin for the multimedia show, adding they intend to produce the musical sometime in the future.

Alliance, which had been prepped to hold up its end of the “iSondheim” bargain, will replace that show with a return engagement of “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris,” a tuner that had a successful run at the theater in 2007. Perfs for “Jacques Brel” begin April 15.
