Korean comedy sold to European, Asian territories
SEOUL — M-Line Distribution has sold hit Korean comedy “My Girlfriend Is an Agent” to Splendid for Germany and Benelux; Jambo Entertainment for Japan; and Encore for Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia.
Pic has grossed $20.4 million since its release in South Korea seven weeks ago by Lotte Entertainment.
Among other M-Line deals that have gone down since the Cannes Market ended last month, helmer Yu Ha’s “A Frozen Flower” was picked up by Japan’s SPO and Singapore’s Festive Films. The thriller “Handphone,” the first local film in which Korean conglom Hanwha Group invested, was bought by Celestial Pictures for Hong Kong and KR Contents for Thailand.
Lotte’s surprise hit “Scandal Makers” has sold to Encore for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Helmer Barry Sonnenfeld has optioned the remake rights for the U.S.
