AFI sets Latin American fest lineup

Event celebrates 20th year with over 30 films

The American Film Institute has announced the films selected for the 2009 AFI Latin American film fest, running Sept. 23-Oct. 12 at the Silver Theater in Silver Spring, Md.

Now in its 20th year, fest will feature filmmaking from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, with more than 30 films from nearly 20 Latin American countries.

Opening night selection is Mexico’s “I’m Going to Explode,” helmed by writer/director Gerardo Naranjo.

The Centerpiece presentation is “Beyond Ipanema: Brazilian Waves in Global Music,” and the closing night screening is Spain-Mexico co-prod “Just Walking.”
