Costa-Gavras confirmed story at Pusan

PUSAN — “Thirst” helmer Park Chan-wook will remake French helmer Costa-Gavras’ 2005 pic “Le Couperet” (The Ax).

Costa-Gavras confirmed the news at the Pusan Film Festival in South Korea, which runs until Friday.

“I was glad to hear that Park, who has made political genre films, wants to remake my film. I met him and we talked a lot here in Pusan. I didn’t want to give any opinions of mine but I will support him as much as I can in France,” said Costa-Gavras.

Park was approached by Gaul’s Studio Canal when he attended Cannes this year with “Thirst.”

“Le Couperet” is a dark comedy thriller about a middle-class worker who turns into a killer after being unemployed for more than three years.

Pusan is showing the extended edition of Park’s “Thirst” and Costa-Gavras’ Berlin fest closer “Eden Is West.”
