Studio to bring Hill blockbuster to bigscreen

Toronto’s Conquering Lion Pictures has nabbed first option film rights to Lawrence Hill’s 2007 blockbuster “Someone Knows My Name,” published in Canada and the U.K. under the title “The Book of Negroes.”

Lion’s Damon D’Oliveira and helmer Clement Virgo (“Poor Boy’s Game”) will produce and are courting international partners, focusing on the U.K. The novel’s story moves from an African village to a southern U.S. plantation to the Halifax dockyards to upper-class London.
