LONDON — Avoiding the financial pain plaguing most commercial broadcasters, European cablers had a good 2008 with revenues up by more than 7% to E18.2 billion ($22.3 billion) last year.
The figures, compiled by global media research company Screen Digest, are more than double the $10.3 billion recorded at the beginning of the decade.
Cable accounts for 58% of all pay TV homes in Europe, according to Screen Digest.
Cable Europe prexy Manuel Kohnstamm said: “Cable in Europe continues to grow at a healthy pace despite the economic slowdown.
“Technological innovation and improved customer experience are the main drivers of this ongoing trend.”
