At the foundation of every production is the makeup artist who gets talent camera-ready. To prepare others for the field, Los Angeles-based makeup artist Brian Lorenz tutors on-set makeup mavens, sharing his production experience (garnered on musicvideo and reality TV shows), combined with product knowledge to inform working pros.
“Makeup is a very complex field, and the makeup artist’s contribution is often underestimated: It’s more than just placing color on the face,” he says.
Lorenz is an expert in camouflaging techniques: covering skin flaws, blemishes and tattoos. Like many in the biz, he graduated from cosmetology school (Huntington Beach’s Richards Beauty College), networked extensively and now outreaches to other pros at industry confabs like the Make-Up Show, through sessions at Cinema Secrets and at schools such as North Hollywood’s MUD (Make-up Designory) and the Studio Makeup Academy at Sunset-Gower Studios.
