Palme d'Or winner to replace 'A Prophet'
Michael Haneke’s Palme d’Or winner “The White Ribbon” will replace “A Prophet” at the AFI Fest.
Switch was made due to a change in the release date for “A Prophet,” which Sony Pictures Classics will bow on Feb. 26.
“White Ribbon,” another Sony Pictures Classics release, which goes out on Dec. 30, is set just before WWI in a German farming village where sudden mysterious acts of cruelty and violence begin to occur, foreshadowing the horror that soon will redefine the German identity.
In addition to the Palme d’Or, the film picked up two other awards at Cannes and is Germany’s nomination in Oscar’s foreign language category.
“We hate to lose an accomplished film like ‘A Prophet,’ but picking up a Palme d’Or winner certainly makes up for it,” said AFI Fest artistic director Rose Kuo.
Fest runs Oct. 30-Nov. 7. “White Ribbon” will unspool Nov. 1.
