Korea to bow online film distrib

Komi connects content holders to service providers

SEOUL — Korean Film Council (Kofic) has unveiled a new model for online film distribution to help the local market, which has been hard hit by piracy.

The Korean Open Movie Exchange (Komi) is a business-to-business service, which connects content holders to service providers.

Komi will provide a platform and archive where content distributors submit their films and service providers select and display them to their users.

“Komi will contribute to actively circulating not only independent films but classical ones. Kofic will also offer guidelines for copyright protection to business developers,” according to a press release.

A pilot service will begin in November, and the official service will bow next year.
