'Precious,' 'Sin Nombre' share jury prize
BRUSSELS — “The Messenger” by first-time director Oren Moverman picked up top honors at the Deauville American Film Festival Sunday night, taking the fest’s grand prize and international critics’ award.
Pic tells the story of a sergeant back from the war in Iraq, working the last three months of his service breaking bad news to relatives of soldiers lost in action. Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton star.
Fest’s jury prize was split equally between “Precious” by Lee Daniels and “Sin Nombre” by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
The Cartier newcomer award went to “Humpday” by Lynn Shelton.
