IFC to co-host 40th anniversary event in New York
LONDON — BAFTA is to bestow on the Monty Python team a special award for outstanding contribution to film and television.
The award will be presented at an event co-hosted by the Independent Film Channel on Oct. 15 in New York to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the troupe’s creation.
Python alumni John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin will attend the event.
BAFTA last honored the Monty Python team in 1987, when they were presented with the Michael Balcon award for outstanding British contribution to cinema.
A new theatrical version of IFC documentary “Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer’s Cut)” will screen at the event, and the Pythons will take part in a Q&A before receiving their award at the end of the evening.
