Goodbye, Gil Grissom.
William Petersen is planning to exit CBS’ “CSI” midway through the upcoming season, the show’s ninth. Petersen has been with the show since its inception. Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar, exec producers of the CBS stalwart, are in the midst of casting a new costar for Marg Helgenberger, who’s also been with the forensic drama since the beginning.
Petersen will remain an exec producer of the series and has agreed to do guest shots in the future, Mendelsohn told the Associated Press. The veteran thesp has had a sometimes-rocky relationship with the network on the show; he made no secret of his unhappiness at the Eye’s decision to field spinoffs of the franchise in “CSI: Miami” and “CSI: NY.”
