“The Wire” episode 2: “Unconfirmed Reports”

POSTED BY STUART LEVINE (Cynthia’s comments follow)

Jimmy McNulty, how low will you go?

McNulty’s utter contempt for the inadequate resources given to the Baltimore Police Dept. — and the lack of respect given to the mission of the BPD as well — came to a head in the final scene of Sunday’s night’s episode, when he arrives at an abandoned storefront with Bunk and tampers with a dead body.

I am so glad The Wire is back. With the Sopranos and Deadwood gone, I will relish this final season and hope Simon decides to go one more season.
Good to see Avon Barksdale. Rooting for him to go one-up on Marlo from prison. Also rooting for Bubbles and Michael to get out of their separate dilemas.
One thing I have noticed is there seems to be a focus on little children. When Freamon is watching Marlo’s men’s activity, a mother locks her child in the house and goes chasing after her girlfriend. At a homeless shelter, Bubbles watches an indigent mother threaten her child with violence. Michael is sent to the back of a house to shoot anyone coming out the back, and a frightened little child comes running out. Last season was middle school kids, this season is younger ones.
Hope to see Randy, Cutty, make appearances.
