Takashima announces election to JIB board
TOKYO — Commercial broadcaster Nippon Television Network will invest in Japan Intl. Broadcasting, a subid of pubcaster NHK engaged in overseas broadcasts.
NHK’s respected former reporter and anchor Hatsuhisa Takashima revealed the investment at a press conference on Wednesday, in which he also announced his election to the JIB board.
Takashima will take over as JIB prexy and CEO on Sept. 1.
In October JIB plans to issue shares worth 190 million yen ($1.73 million) to NTV and other networks, as well as trading houses, IT companies, financial institutions and other private companies.
NHK will kick in an extra $1.37 million. The company’s capital currently stands at $450,000.
Launched in April, JIB will start full-scale operations on Sept. 1. In February it plans to launch a 24-hour English-language service via cable, satellite and broadband that features NHK news and other NHK shows, as well as original programming.
It aims to reach 110 million households worldwide by the end of March.
