TOKYO — Jupiter Telecommunications, Japan’s largest cable TV operator, has purchased No. 3 cabler Mediatti Communications for $303 million, J:Com announced on Thurs-day.
Mediatti becomes a wholly owned Jupiter subsid, while Jupiter expands its subscriber count from 10.9 million to 12.1 million. Jupiter also plans to gain efficiencies by consolidating the two companies’ adjoining service areas in the greater Tokyo region.
Jupiter’s biggest shareholder, with a 57.5% stake, is a joint venture owned by U.S. cable operator Liberty Global and trading house Sumitomo.
