Fox reality block wins ratings race

Fox rolled to another easy victory on Wednesday night, dominating its two hours with the unscripted combo of “American Idol” and “The Moment of Truth.”

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “American Idol” (10.4 rating/26 share in adults 18-49, 26.0 million viewers overall) was up week to week and out-rated its combined ABC-CBS-NBC competition in the 8 o’clock hour by 55% in adults 18-49. ABC’s “Wife Swap” was also up to place second in demos (2.5/6 in 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall), followed by CBS’ repeat comedies (an average 2.3/6 in 18-49 and 7.3 million viewers overall for “Two and a Half Men” and “Big Bang Theory”) and NBC’s repeat of “Deal or No Deal” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 8.1 million viewers overall).

Fox remained comfortably in front at 9 o’clock with “Moment of Truth” (7.1/17 in 18-49, 16.9 million viewers overall), which despite more declines continues to hold on to a good chunk of its “Idol” lead-in. The other nets picked up in this hour, led in demos by ABC’s “Supernanny” (3.0/7 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall), followed by repeats of “Criminal Minds” on CBS (2.7/7 in 18-49, 10.4 million viewers overall) and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” on NBC (2.2/5 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall for an episode that had aired previously on cable net USA).

At 10 o’clock, an original episode of “CSI: NY” put CBS into the lead (3.2/8 in 18-49, 10.7 million viewers overall), outperforming original segs of competiting dramas “Law & Order” on NBC (2.9/8 in 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall) and “Cashmere Mafia” on ABC (2.0/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall).

CW didn’t do a whole lot at 8 o’clock with its special “America’s Next Top Model Exposed” (0.8/2 in 18-49, 1.7 million viewers overall). “Model,” the net’s top-rated show, returns later this month.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 8.7/22; CBS, 2.7/7; ABC, 2.5/6; NBC, 2.3/6; Univision, 2.2/6; CW, 0.7/2.

In total viewers: Fox, 21.5 million; CBS, 9.5 million; NBC, 8.7 million; ABC, 6.4 million; Univision, 4.6 million; CW, 1.5 million.
