Programming slates local shows, hit series

TOKYO — The History Channel will launch History HD in Japan on October.

The channel will offer all high-def content in Japanese. Programming will be a mix of locally sourced shows and History Channel content, including series and specials. Titles include “Cities of the Underworld,” “The Universe,” “Ancient Discoveries,” “Ice Road Truckers” and the local production “Project X.”

The History Channel Japan, a joint venture of A&E Television Networks and Super-Network, will operate the channel.

History HD first bowed in the U.K. in October 2006 and in the U.S. in September 2007. It has since rolled out to Europe and Southeast Asia.
