Fox's 'Secret Millionaire' holds strong

Original episodes of its regular lineup, including dominant dramas “Criminal Minds” and “CSI: NY,” helped CBS cruise to victory on Wednesday, a night that saw Fox again do well with its new entry “Secret Millionaire.”

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, CBS opened the night with average demo deliveries for comedies “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) and “Gary Unmarried” (2.4/7 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall), although both hit season highs in total viewers. CBS then crushed the competition from 9 to 11 p.m. with “Criminal Minds” (3.9/10 in 18-49, 14.7 million viewers overall) and “CSI: NY” (3.5/10 in 18-49, 13.2 million viewers overall).

At Fox, “Secret Millionaire” (2.7/8 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) won the 8 o’clock hour in demos, rising from its premiere the previous week. It was followed by modest scores for a special repeat of crime drama “Bones” (1.5/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall), which is heading for a new Thursday 8 o’clock timeslot in January.

ABC had another quiet night with its lineup of sophomore dramas “Pushing Daisies” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall), “Private Practice” (2.4/6 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) and “Dirty Sexy Money” (1.8/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall), and NBC similarly struggled with Christmas spec “Little Spirit: Christmas in New York” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall), “Life” (1.8/5 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) and “Law & Order” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall).

CW, meanwhile, continues to perform meekly with first-year unscripted contest “Stylista” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 1.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 3.2/9; Fox, 2.1/6; ABC, 1.9/5; NBC, 1.8/5; Univision, 1.6/4; CW, 0.5/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 12.0 million; NBC, 6.0 million; Fox, 5.9 million; ABC, 5.7 million; Univision, 4.3 million; CW, 1.3 million.
